Consultant General Surgeon – Lorn & Islands Hospital, Oban
NHS Highland
Location: Lorn & Islands Hospital, Oban
Salary: £111,430 – £148,064 per annum.
Position type: Permanent, full‑time post – 10 PAs per week (2 EPAs available). Flexible contract options available.
This role is for a Consultant General Surgeon to work in our unique, busy rural general hospital in Oban. The hospital is located on the west coast of Scotland but close to the central belt; within 2 hours drive to Glasgow International Airport.
‘Generalism is our Specialism’. We are happy to consider any subspecialty interest provided you are ‘Emergency General Surgery’ trained, and we are eager to support other training or experience you may require, making this a truly unique opportunity.
This isn’t a job for someone interested in just maintaining rural surgical services. This is about making them fit for the future.
Applications for part‑time/flexible working will be considered. The job can be advertised on a 10 PA (plus 2 EPAs) basis.
Global Citizens Contract
We can offer a Global Citizens contract for a period of 3 years. The job can offer 10 weeks of paid time each year to contribute to global health work. Work may include online teaching, engagement with global and national policymakers, and support of partner countries’ services.
