Millstead is a primary special school with a community of fantastic children who have a wide range of interests, abilities and additional needs (including severe learning difficulties, profound and multiple learning difficulties, sensory impairments and autism).

An exciting opportunity exists to join the catering team within our OUTSTANDING school (OFSTED January Our emphasis on self-improvement and the continuing desire to provide high quality care and support is integral to the successful delivery of high quality teaching and learning that serves the complex needs of all our pupils. We are a Food For Thought school and we are proud to serve high quality, fresh, home-made food daily to our children. Our Catering Team are integral to the education offer at Millstead School, supporting the development of communication and independent skills.

Main purpose of the role

To assist in the preparation, delivery and/or serving of meals that meets the dietary needs and nutritional targets set by the Government.

To work with teachers and support staff as part of a professional team to support pupils with a range of SEND needs during the lunchtime period.

Ensure compliance with the relevant Health & Safety and Food Hygiene requirements.

Directly responsible to: Headteacher

Functionally responsible to: School Business Manager

Core responsibilities and tasks

Key duties:

* As part of a team, assist in the delivery of a healthy and varied menu in conjunction with school and Food For Thought.
* Carry out preparation work as directed by the School Chef/Cover Chef.
* To prepare the dining area in readiness for the children's lunches.
* Ensure the dining area is cleaned thoroughly following the lunchtime serving.
* Assist with deliveries ensuring supplies are stored correctly.
* To maintain a high standard of food presentation using appropriate equipment in keeping with Environmental Health requirements
* To make mealtimes a pleasing and pleasant experience for all children.
* To follow a cleaning schedule that ensures a high standard of cleanliness complying with Health & Safety Procedures, Food Safety Act and Food Safety (General Food Hygiene) Regulations 1995.
* To maintain safety standards within the kitchen area together with those safety standards affecting all kitchen staff.
* To assist in the catering for special occasions including events for the children, guests or visitors to the school as requested by the Headteacher or Food For Thought.
* To maintain and comply with the uniform policy, ensuring the correct clothing, footwear and headwear are worn at all times.
* To maintain the school's and Liverpool City Council's commitment to equal opportunities and promote non-discriminatory practice in all work aspects. It must be understood that every employee has a responsibility to ensure that their work complies with all statutory requirements together with all procedures, disciplinary and grievances as determined by the school.
