As the sole agency supplier to the HM Prison Service for the provision of maintenance trades and support operatives. Hays is seeking to recruit a Maintenance Handyperson for HMP Humber near Brough. This is an exciting opportunity to work within the prison service and can often lead to permanent opportunities.
Your new role
As part of the Works Department, you will be responsible for both reactive repairs and planned and preventative maintenance. Currently, the prison has several refurbishment and general day-to-day maintenance projects underway. The role involves tasks such as assisting other trades, putting up signage, basic painting and carpentry, using drills and hand tools, and conducting fire alarm/emergency lighting checks.
You will be required to complete and pass a security clearance prior to starting.
Hours: Mon – Fri (39 hours per week)
What you'll need to succeed
Previous experience in a prison/public sector is not required. However, the role requires candidates to be security conscious, able to challenge potential risks, reliable, consistent, level-headed, and possess excellent interpersonal skills. Full training for working within a prison is provided by the establishment/department.
You must pass a full prison security clearance and, if required, an enhanced DBS check (organised by Hays and the MOJ). You must hold a valid passport or full birth certificate, along with a photo driving licence at your current address.
You must also have proof of National Insurance and proof of address dated within the past 3 months. All applicants must provide at least two satisfactory employment references.
