Selected by bp (British Petroleum) to construct a first-of-a-kind fully integrated gas-fired power station with carbon capture and storage, this project aims to make Teesside the UK's first decarbonised industrial cluster. Balfour Beatty is seeking a dynamic Carbon Capture Lead to contribute to the Net Zero Teesside (NZT) project based at our site in Redcar and Cleveland.
Responsibilities
* Review and approve engineering deliverables related to piping, ducting, electrical, and instrumentation for carbon capture systems
* Ensure compliance with UK environmental, pressure systems, and ATEX/DSEAR regulations where applicable
* Manage design interfaces between process licensors, civil/structural teams, and BBK's MEP scope
* Provide constructability reviews and value engineering input during design development
* Lead the planning and sequencing of installation works for carbon capture equipment
* Ensure integration of mechanical and electrical systems into plant modules or site-built systems
* Support commissioning planning and interface with commissioning engineers
* Support procurement strategy for specialist equipment and subcontractors (e.g. CO2 compressors, absorbers, heat exchangers)
* Review supplier technical submissions and ensure alignment with project requirements
* Manage variations and change control for carbon capture scope
* Ensure safe design and installation methods are adopted, in line with BBK's zero-harm culture
* Review risk assessments and method statements for carbon capture works
* Act as primary point of contact for client representatives on carbon capture scope
* Provide regular progress reports, forecasts, and risk updates to project leadership
* Represent BBK in technical meetings and industry forums related to CCUS
Qualifications and Personal Qualities
The successful candidate will have the following personal qualities and experience:
* Degree (BEng/MEng or equivalent) in Mechanical, Electrical, Process, or Chemical Engineering
* Proven track record on large-scale energy, industrial, or process plant projects (e.g. power generation, petrochemical, oil & gas, or heavy MEP)
* Strong understanding of multi-disciplinary plant integration (piping, electrical, instrumentation, mechanical equipment)
* Demonstrable experience of managing complex engineering packages from design through construction
* Working knowledge of UK standards and regulations (health & safety, pressure systems, COMAH, ATEX/DSEAR), Disability Confident
