Therapy Assistant - Community

We are currently looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated full time Therapy Assistant, to join the Peterborough Community Rehabilitation Team based at Botolph Bridge Community Health Centre, Peterborough.

You will be fully supported by physiotherapists and occupational therapists delivering therapy to patients with primarily physical disabilities. The therapy service within the Community Rehabilitation Team provides rehabilitation, housing adaptations, moving and handling to adults over 18 years and works alongside nurses, mental health practitioners and other multi-disciplinary professionals in the Cambridgeshire area.CPFT are in full support of Health Education England, Allied Health Professional, Support workforce framework which provides structured learning for support workers and encourages career development.


Main duties of the job

Please note for this role you will be required to travel independently around the county meeting strict time deadlines. You will need to hold a full UK driving licence* and have use of a vehicle. You cannot use public transport for this role as this is not a reliable form of transport and will not allow you to meet service needs. Please confirm in your application that you meet the specified criteria.

We are looking for a self-motivated individual who is able to work within the Community Rehabilitation team to provide a high standard of care to our patients.

You will be required to support with mobility and appropriate exercises, activities of daily living (ADL's) and provision of equipment to facilitate independence and reduce risks as well as completing falls prevention interventions where indicated.

You will be supported by a registered professional to carry out appropriate and delegated assessments, treatments and identify risks whilst working in the community.

Job responsibilities

Please refer to the attached job description and person specification for full details of responsibilities

* Work under guidance on specified tasks, with regular clinical support and supervision by a registered practitioner.
* To implement therapy interventions and treatment plans, such as exercise programmes (group or individual), provision of mobility aids, measuring and fitting adaptive equipment, minor adaptations.
* To be responsible for ensuring equipment is used safely, following relevant training and that it is maintained appropriately.
* Use your skills for making ongoing evaluations of patients response to prescribed treatment/care plans, and report findings to a registered professional in line with competency framework.
* To effectively communicate verbally with patients, carers and colleagues using tact and persuasive skills. This may involve using skills where patients have difficulties in communication, e.g. hearing loss, diminished sight, cognitive impairment, behavioural problems, and pain.
* Establish and maintain appropriate working relationships with patients, carers, colleagues, and other health care professionals. This will also enable you to assess patient understanding of treatment proposals, gain valid informed consent and to work within a legal framework with patients who lack capacity to consent to treatment.

Staff development within CPFT is highly valued and you will be supported to attend relevant internal and external courses to develop your knowledge and skills to improve clinical practice as identified as part of your appraisal process.


Person Specification


Education/Qualifications

* NVQ Level 3 or equivalent level of knowledge and experience
* Good general education up to GCSE equivalent
* Willingness to undertake training to meet competency framework
* NVQ Level 3 Care Award (certificate and portfolio)
* Chair based and OTAGO exercise training, or willingness to undertake


Experience

* Experience of working in a healthcare environment or care environment
* Experience of caring for adults and older people with physical and/or mental health conditions
* Experience of supporting people to be independent
* Knowledge of the role of registered professional Physiotherapist and/or OT
* Use of adaptive equipment


Skills & Abilities

* Able to demonstrate commitment to high quality care and service provision.
* Competent use of English language (spoken and written)
* Good level of numeracy for e.g. measuring accurately
* Experience of SystmOne or similar patient record system


Physical Requirements

* Kneel, bend & stoop, and work in cramped environments
* Move and manoeuvre people and equipment
* Manoeuvre patients using moving and handling aids
* Able to travel around their work base locality

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
