We’re Hiring: Operations Manager (Hands-On Manufacturing Leadership)
📍 Essex / Hertfordshire (split-site role)
I’m currently supporting an innovative, growing engineering and manufacturing business who are looking to bring in a hands-on Operations Manager to oversee production across two UK sites.
This is a key hire for the business, working closely with the Managing Director and taking ownership of day-to-day operations, with real influence across production, quality, and overall business performance.
This is not a corporate role, we’re looking for someone who has come from the shop floor and enjoys being close to the detail.
🔧 Key Responsibilities:
* Oversee manufacturing operations across two sites
* Lead production planning, ensuring on-time delivery and high-quality output
* Drive continuous improvement across processes, workflow, and efficiency
* Manage stock control, supply chain coordination, and operational KPIs
* Work closely with quality to maintain and improve QMS and compliance standards
* Lead, coach, and develop a small, close-knit team
* Support broader business decisions including budgeting, investment, and planning
✅ What We’re Looking For:
* Proven experience in a hands-on operations / production / manufacturing leadership role
* Background in engineering or machining (CNC, precision engineering, or similar highly desirable)
* Experience working within SME environments (comfortable wearing multiple hats)
* Strong understanding of workshop environments and production processes
* Exposure to CAD / technical drawings is beneficial
* Knowledge of quality systems, audits, and health & safety
* Strong leadership skills with a collaborative, low-ego mindset
