PSI supply specialist equipment designed and manufactured in-house for the Advanced Materials industry, our technology is sold throughout the world and offers customers research or production scale machines to process feedstock material into a range of high value-added products for the aerospace, defence, and general engineering sectors.
Role Description
We are seeking a senior design engineer to join our multidisciplinary team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in the design, development and delivery of innovative projects. This is a hands‑on role with opportunities to take ownership of projects from concept through to deployment.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
* Reports to Design Office Manager.
* Work closely with Production to help support maintenance and technical enquiries.
* Responsible for design and development of mechanical systems and assemblies.
* Produce accurate 2D and 3D CAD drawings using Inventor and AutoCAD.
* Preparation of technical documentation, specifications, and reports.
* Carry out FEA and CFD analysis, to support Design File.
* Carry out hand calculations to support Design File.
* Run design reviews and contribute to engineering problem‑solving.
* Research new materials and processes.
* Analyse and manage multiple design related issues to identify root cause.
* Control of Bill of Materials (BoM), CAD Models and Engineering Drawings.
* Keep up with current and developing engineering trends.
* Maintain and develop personal engineering skills and knowledge.
* Deliver engineering solutions for complex projects.
* Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
* Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and standards.
* Collaborate with stakeholders to develop and review design documentation.
Skills & Experience
* Possession of an accredited university degree or equivalent qualification in Engineering preferably an MA or MScs.
* Possession of an accredited university degree, BTEC/SQA award, or completion of an apprenticeship leading to an NVQ/SVQ at Level 4 for Incorporated Engineers.
* Completion of appropriate training and experience after qualification for all routes.
* Preferable to have attainment of membership in a chartered engineering institution.
The role is based at PSI’s Hailsham site but may involve occasional UK travel and short overseas visits in support of our worldwide customer base. Due to the nature of the work this role cannot be fulfilled by working on a remote basis.
Full UK Driving Licence and ability to travel globally as required.
Working Hours:
Holiday Entitlement: 22 days Plus, Bank holidays.
