Severn View Family Practice is a small-medium sized practice located in Thornbury and are looking for a highly motivated Receptionist to join our team.
We are looking for candidates who have good customer service skills, a natural tendency to empathise, an ability to record accurate messages, are IT literate, and can use their own initiative while maintaining confidentiality. The role includes providing front of house reception duties, answering busy telephone lines, and a variety of administrative duties. The successful candidate will work collaboratively within our reception team and should be willing to 'get stuck in'.
The applicant will be expected to cover shifts starting at 7.45 am or ending at 6.30 pm during the week, on scheduled days (either Mon/Weds/Thurs/Fri for one candidate or Mon/Tues/Weds/Fri for another), and assist with holiday/sickness cover as needed.
Main duties of the job
Responsibilities include:
* Dealing courteously with patients face to face and on the telephone.
* Answering incoming calls promptly and professionally.
* Taking accurate messages for home visits and preparing printed summaries, including care plans if available.
* Guiding patients to book appointments via our Klinik app or telephone consultations and providing information about care pathways.
* Booking appointments or consultations for patients and providing relevant information about care pathways.
* Scanning incoming patient letters, reading and acting on relevant information before scanning and forwarding to a doctor/nurse.
* Checking and posting Lab Link results in accordance with practice protocols.
* Performing other administrative duties as necessary.
* Maintaining confidentiality and complying with policies and GDPR.
About us
Severn View Family Practice is a three-partner GP surgery based in Thornbury Health Centre, serving approximately 9,000 patients, including local care/nursing homes and the Henderson rehabilitation ward. We are a training practice with a mix of ST3, 1st, 2nd, and 5th-year students.

* Assisting the Prescription Hub with repeat prescriptions and updating patient medication records.
* Registering new patients and temporary residents in our system.
* Handling monetary transactions for private work securely.
* Responding to complaints and patient feedback appropriately.
* Dealing professionally with difficult patients or situations.
* Providing excellent customer service at all times as representatives of the practice.
* Performing other administrative roles as needed.
* Maintaining confidentiality and complying with data protection laws.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* GCSEs in Maths and English
* Experience in general practice or customer service
* Experience with Emis Web or Optum
* Proficiency in Microsoft 365, Excel, Word, etc.
Disclosure and Barring Service Check
This position requires a DBS check due to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975. A disclosure application will be made to check for any criminal convictions.
