We’re looking for a passionate Regional Engagement Officer - Midlands to join our Group Corporate Affair team!
The External Affairs and Stakeholder Engagement team manages relationships with political, business, and media stakeholders across the region, telling NGED's story and creating a favorable policy environment for the company's priorities.
The Corporate Affairs department protects, preserves, and enhances the reputation of the National Grid. Electricity Distribution Corporate Affairs (EDCA) supports the Electricity Distribution Business (NGED), serving 20 million customers across the Midlands, South West, and Wales.
This role is based in Warwick or Castle Donington, with a flexible hybrid work pattern requiring at least two days in the office per week. We are open to discussing additional flexible working arrangements.
What You'll Do
1. Support public affairs and community engagement campaigns, including engaging with MPs, Senedd Members, Metro Mayors, Councillors, trade associations, and business groups to improve NGED’s reputation and influence.
2. Manage stakeholder casework, ensuring issues are resolved efficiently and communications are tracked properly.
3. Maintain and develop a network of external contacts to support the company’s priorities and share intelligence.
4. Create content for internal and external communications, including blogs, intranet articles, speeches, Q&A materials, scripts, and presentations.
5. Collaborate with the regional engagement team to plan activities, clarify messaging, measure impact, and execute campaigns.
6. Assist with government and regional consultations, parliamentary inquiries, and prepare briefing materials.
7. Support representations to committees and parliamentary debates.
8. Work with the Corporate Affairs team on campaigns, projects, and communications, including crisis communication materials.
9. Stay informed on political developments affecting the region and share insights with colleagues.
What You'll Have
* Degree or postgraduate qualification preferred, but relevant experience is acceptable.
* Strong understanding of Midlands politics and stakeholder networks.
* Knowledge of UK political environment and government machinery.
* Experience working with internal stakeholders in large organizations.
* Skills in copywriting, editing, social media, and web content creation.
* Experience with public policy responses and representing company interests.
* Ability to communicate complex policy clearly to diverse audiences.
* Excellent prioritization, collaboration, and communication skills under pressure.
* Creative, adaptable, and able to tailor messages to audiences.
* Experience working with senior managers in a multi-stakeholder environment.
