This is a Fixed term post for 12 Months.
An opportunity has arisen for two Clinical Fellow posts in Microbiology in NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde. The post-holder is expected to contribute to the broad range of laboratory and clinical roles within the department including clinical advice, laboratory oversight, report authorisation, diagnostic and antimicrobial advice and stewardship and ward consultation, in addition to teaching and training responsibilities. Applicants should have full registration with GMC with a licence to practice.
Applications are welcomed from candidates for the above posts based at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and Glasgow Royal Infirmary. This 12 month clinical fellow post is available from August 2026 and two (2) appointments are expected to be made, one for each site (though fellows may be required to work at either site to meet the needs of the service). These posts are suitable for enthusiastic individuals who would like to gain more experience in the diagnosis and management of infection in a laboratory setting. The post would be ideal for those considering a career as an infection specialist of any variety, as well as offering experience which will be applicable to primary care and a variety of medical and surgical specialties in the future.
The successful candidate will join a supportive team of microbiologists and biomedical scientists working in two of the largest diagnostic microbiology laboratories in Scotland. GGC Microbiology offers diagnostic, clinical advisory, and infection control services across NHS GGC. We have close links with a wide variety of high volume service users, relevant reference laboratories, and clinical infection specialities.
