Introduction
Vanderlande is the global market leader in baggage handling systems for airports, sorting systems for distribution and postal services and Warehouse Solutions. Working within our customer site at our Sainsbury's Distribution Centre, the Team Leader will be leading, coordinating & managing the Service technicians and ESO’s to ensure productivity & output, equipment availability, H&S compliance, quality, Maximo reporting and team working is optimized in accordance with agreed timescales.
Responsibilities
* Maintain and optimise the performance of the equipment and staff in terms of operational safety, availability, responsiveness and throughput to meet contractual service levels.
* Act as the first point of escalation and seek to resolve issues as they arise.
* Focus on maximising the operational output of the system.
* Lead the Vanderlande maintenance team and any contractors, with the primary objective to achieve optimum work performance, productivity and reliability, including improving performance where necessary.
* Promote positive morale within the team, a positive high‑performing culture and identify talent; work with the Site Manager to agree PDPs and participate in developmental support.
* Organise teams in all aspects of working time, presence at work, work rosters, staffing matrix, building access, health and safety inductions, material handling safety requirements, holiday and sickness, absence cover and overtime work.
* Enable plant monitoring, fault detection and correction using proven procedures for early detection, prioritisation, speedy response, containment of fault propagation and mitigation of impact to safety, availability and throughput.
* Report building covering system productivity, performance and team performance; verify and validate the team’s contractual performance against predetermined metrics.
* Log stock correctly, close work orders and confirm completion.
* Ensure correct PPE is worn, permits and LOTO procedures are followed.
* Interface with the customer in a professional and courteous manner, face‑to‑face, telephone or email.
* Ensure contract SLAs are consistently achieved and improved.
* Serve as the principal point of contact for the Vanderlande Service Team and produce reporting in accordance with agreed schedules and company procedures.
* Ensure proper handover of shift duties, tools, gear and unresolved matters; address areas of concern and plant equipment returned to service.
* Ensure work is carried out “right first time” and initiate root‑cause analysis for major or repetitive breakdowns.
* Attend meetings with the customer and other Vanderlande functions to liaise, debrief operational matters, verify and settle concerns, progress joint efforts and propose worthwhile improvements.
* Offer strategic insight to the development of the onsite teams.
* Disseminate comprehensive, accurate and presentable reports according to contractual obligations and mutual agreements in a timely manner.
* Ensure all work entered into Maximo correctly and promptly.
* Lead continuous improvement of policies and procedures, learn continuously and develop professional potential and ability.
Qualifications and Skills
* Ability to collect, validate sufficient information to carry out root‑cause analysis and develop implementation recommendations.
* Strategic planning and delivery for site development and team capability.
* Good interpersonal skills and ability to communicate precisely both in writing and verbally at all levels.
* Computer literate with ability to read and interpret drawings.
* Ability to plan and prioritise workload.
* Self‑initiative and teamwork capability.
* Previous experience managing multi‑skilled maintenance teams.
* Previous experience within a material handling system, FMCG manufacturing or automated warehousing environment (essential).
* Proactive approach to fault finding and excellent communication skills.
* Team player with a flexible and pragmatic attitude.
* Experience supporting automated systems with electro‑mechanical skills.
* Relevant vocational and/or technical qualifications (ONC/HNC).
* Experience using PLCs and diagnostics.
* Experience in training and coaching.
* Experience in RCA and Lean methodologies.
