Occupational Therapy Technical Instructor
Full time Band 4 Occupational Therapy Tech position in the Trauma and Orthopaedics Team at Treliske. The role supports Occupational Therapists in the assessment and treatment of patients and day‑to‑day running of the therapy environment.
Responsibilities
* Support Occupational Therapists in assessment and treatment of patients.
* Accept patients referred by a Therapist and manage own patient caseload.
* Treat patients according to set protocols, monitor progression, and make alterations within scope of practice.
* Work unsupervised, report progress and inform therapists of any problems.
* Undertake assessment of patients; use investigative and analytical skills; formulate treatment programmes.
* Liaise with therapists regarding patient care and highlight variations to expected outcomes.
* Work unsupervised on wards, provide advice/teaching exercise programmes to patients and carers.
* Consider provision of appropriate equipment and support for patients' environmental circumstances.
* Support patients, carers, staff and relatives by providing education and advice under therapists' instruction.
* Participate in inter‑professional evaluation of assessment and treatment programmes.
Qualifications & Requirements
Essential:
* Good general education up to GCSE or equivalent.
* NVQ Level III or BTEC National Diploma in appropriate area or equivalent relevant qualification such as sports science / health related degree.
* Comprehensive experience of working in an acute healthcare setting.
* Minimum 12 months experience as an Occupational Therapy technician/assistant.
* Experience managing an independent caseload.
Desirable:
* Evidence of recent study in Anatomy and Physiology ITEC, Access to Occupational / Physiotherapy Therapy course, etc.
* Experience of post‑operative bracing, gait education and post‑op exercise programmes.
