Barrow Town District Nurses has an exciting opportunity for a temporary fixed‑term Band 5 Community Nurse to cover a 7‑month maternity leave, predominantly from the Furness base with flexibility to change base as service needs arise.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated band 5 Community Nurse who will be happy to work in an evolving district nursing service. The successful applicant will be committed to working closely with health and social care colleagues to provide high quality care to patients with a wide range of medical conditions in the community setting.
The role requires excellent communication skills as you will undertake complex nursing assessments and develop and deliver programmes of care for patients and carers. District nurses work a 24‑hour service with regular weekends, evening shifts and occasional nights. You will need to work collaboratively with other professionals, voluntary sector and informal carers to promote excellent care in patients’ own homes and the community setting.
Applications from student nurses due to qualify and newly qualified staff nurses are welcomed from those who wish to develop within the scope of Community Nursing.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide evidence‑based, holistic nursing care to patients in homes, residential homes and community settings.
* Conduct complex nursing assessments, develop care plans and deliver programmes of care for patients and carers.
* Work within a 24‑hour service, including regular weekends, evenings and occasional nights.
* Collaborate with health care professionals, voluntary sector and informal carers to promote excellent patient care.
* Support the Sister/Team Leader in leading the team, supervising, directing staff and delegating workload according to the skills of team members.
* Represent the Integrated Care System across community settings and drive seamless services ensuring the highest standard of care.
* Adopt flexible working patterns across the three main hospitals (Furness General, Royal Lancaster Infirmary and Westmorland General) and community premises.
Qualifications & Skills
* Registered Nurse with Band 5 status.
* Experience in community nursing or a related adult nursing setting is desirable.
* Strong organisational and time‑management skills.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Commitment to patient safety, high quality care and continuous professional development.
