About Us
At Yewlands Academy, every lesson, every moment and every interaction matters. Our passionate and expert teaching staff are specialists in their subjects, committed to delivering high-quality, evidence-informed lessons that ensure knowledge is not just taught—but remembered and applied. Because true learning is about long-term understanding, not short-term recall. Serving children aged 2–19 years, we are proud to be part of Brigantia Learning Trust.
Our vision is clear: we want every student to leave Yewlands equipped with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to thrive in a competitive world. We believe our students deserve an education every bit as rich and ambitious as that offered by the best schools in the country—and we are relentless in our pursuit of that standard. This means holding high expectations for every student, knowing that such expectations raise aspirations and drive achievement.
The Role
The postholder will play a key role within the Academy's Reconnect Provision, supporting students who are not yet secondary-ready due to significant gaps in literacy, numeracy, learning behaviours and wider curriculum knowledge. Working closely with the Reconnect Teacher, the HLTA will help students develop the skills, confidence and resilience required to successfully access mainstream secondary education.
The HLTA will take responsibility for leading agreed teaching and intervention sessions independently when the Reconnect Teacher is delivering additional interventions elsewhere in school and will contribute to the planning, preparation, assessment and development of the Reconnect curriculum.
Key Responsibilities:
* Work in partnership with the Reconnect Teacher to plan, prepare and deliver a bespoke curriculum for students who are not yet secondary-ready.
* Lead agreed lessons and intervention sessions independently when the Reconnect Teacher is delivering interventions elsewhere in school.
* Deliver high-quality literacy, numeracy and curriculum catch-up programmes to small groups of students.
* Support students in developing reading fluency, comprehension, writing skills, mathematical understanding and wider curriculum knowledge.
What We Offer:
* A dedicated and passionate SEND department
* An environment where every student is valued and supported to flourish
* Opportunities for professional development and collaboration across our 2–18+ Sheffield Trust
* High quality professional development and support
* A chance to make a real difference to students’ education and wellbeing
