Overview

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Teaching Duties Will Include:

* Engage in teaching and assessment of undergraduate dental hygiene and therapy students within the clinical environment.
* Monitor activities and actions of undergraduate students to ensure development of clinical skills and knowledge aligned with learning outcomes.
* Offer appropriate feedback and encourage student reflection.
* Provide guidance in clinical dental practice within the GDC scope of practice.
* Ensure clinical education standards are maintained through evidence‑based practice and adherence to national and local guidelines.
* Take day‑to‑day responsibility for organisation and co‑ordination of patient treatment within undergraduate programmes, in line with placement policies.
* Assist in assessment of students and maintain quality assurance requirements.
* Handle administrative duties related to clinical supervision.
* Contribute to programme development and dental hygiene or therapy training of the dental team.
* Maintain clinical skills through patient treatment and care.
* Develop scholarly activities in line with University and College strategies.

Administrative And Wider Contribution Duties Will Include:

* Participate in student recruitment and induction procedures, including School and University Open Days.
* Contribute to the management of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, including exam organisation and accreditation/QA procedures.
* Assist in marketing of programmes through School and College link activities.
* Undertake other duties relevant to the School’s activities as directed by the Programme Lead.
* Participate in School boards, task groups and support undergraduate student experience.

Other Duties And Responsibilities:

* Participate in performance review and developmental activities.
* Comply with the University’s equality policies, Dignity at Work and Study Policy and Welsh Language Scheme.
* Ensure health, safety and wellbeing of staff, students and visitors; comply with all relevant policies and risk assessments.
* Adhere to legal and financial policies and be aware of responsibilities related to the post.


Person Specification

Qualifications/Training – Essential:

* Educated to degree standard in dental therapy.
* Registration with the GDC as a Dental Hygienist/Therapist.

Qualifications/Training – Desirable:

* Formal teaching qualification such as Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education (PGCertHE).

Experience/Knowledge – Essential:

* Substantial experience working as a dental hygienist/therapist within a primary care setting.

Experience/Knowledge – Desirable:

* Experience in clinical training of the dental team.
* Teaching experience within Higher Education.

Skills/Abilities – Essential:

* Excellent clinical skills.
* Ability to demonstrate and undertake effective clinical supervision of students.
* Ability to work within a team.
* Excellent communication skills.
* Demonstrable IT skills required for VLE techniques and learning technologies.
* Active networker.

Skills/Abilities – Desirable:

* Experience in the clinical assessment of students.

Other – Essential:

* Flexible approach.
* Ability to travel independently between sites.
* Commitment to the University Mission Statement.

Other – Desirable:

* Ability to communicate through the medium of Welsh (learning opportunities available).
