We are seeking a confident, active, and compassionate individual to support our 9-year-old son, A.D., who has apraxia and sensory processing needs. A.D. responds best to positive, kind, and enthusiastic people who take the time to understand him. He is energetic and enjoys physical activities such as climbing, skateboarding, and movement-based play.
This is a lone-working position designed to give the family some respite. You will work with A.D. 1:1 in the community and occasionally at home. The role requires providing reassurance, gentle transitions, and maintaining calmness during challenging moments to help him manage overwhelming situations.
Main Duties:
1. Taking A.D. to physical activities like climbing walls, skateparks, and outdoor play areas.
2. Assisting A.D. with safe transitions between car and activities.
3. Supporting him through tricky moments with calmness and flexibility.
4. Occasional cooking or baking activities at home.
Candidate Requirements:
* Experience supporting children or young people with autism and additional needs.
* Physically active and comfortable supervising in stimulating environments.
* Calm under pressure and confident during emotional or behavioral dysregulation.
* Positive, patient, and relationship-driven attitude.
* Ability to take initiative and adapt activities as needed.
* Car owner with a valid UK driving licence and business insurance.
* Reliable, punctual, and committed to consistency.
* Comfortable with lone working.
* Must like dogs and cats.
* Ability to build rapport with A.D.'s siblings.

Compass Disability Services (Compass Independent Living Team) provides support, advisory, and payroll services to enable people with disabilities or long-term health conditions to live independently. The employment is with the family, not with Compass.
Details:
* Hours: 8 hours per week, ideally split into two 3-hour sessions and one 2-hour session.
* Flexibility on days/times to be discussed.
* Pay: £13.57 per hour.
