Job Responsibilities
* Manage and allocate resources, including decisions on service thresholds and allocation of referrals and assessments to social work staff.
* Provide operational management support for the team in the absence of the team manager.
* Offer mentoring and support to colleagues in the social work team, including joint work and practice development.
* Specialize in specific areas of work, sharing knowledge and skills across teams, such as assessing parents with addictions or working with young people who sexually abuse.
* Mentor and support newly qualified or inexperienced social workers, and supervise non-qualified staff as per Council policy.
* Conduct quality assurance exercises, such as case audits and observed practices, to develop good practice.
* Manage a small, complex caseload requiring significant experience and skills, including child protection and adoption cases.
* Maintain accurate and up-to-date records using the Children's social care electronic management systems.
* Participate in professional supervision sessions, staff meetings, and all available training and development opportunities.
* Contribute to the evaluation and development of services by sharing knowledge about theory, skills, and practice with other social work staff.
Person Specification
* Essential: Recognized qualification in social work (Dip.SW, CSS, CQSW or equivalent) and Social Work England Registration.
* Essential: Minimum of 3 years post-qualifying experience in statutory children's social work teams.
* Essential: Experience in mentoring or supporting colleagues, and ability to provide professional supervision.
* Essential: Extensive knowledge of legislation and guidance underpinning delivery of children's social care.
* Essential: Time management, organizational, and IT skills, along with the ability to complete timely and accurate assessments.
* Essential: Ability to work autonomously, communicate effectively, and meet deadlines and targets.
* Essential: Enhanced DBS [plus Children's Barred List] and a full driving license with access to a reliable car.
* Desirable: Practice teaching qualification and experience in quality assurance systems.
