We are looking for a highly motivated podiatrist who has strong evidence of clinical experience of working in wound care clinics, diabetes management and the treatment of complex patients, although we would consider applications from an experienced Band 6 clinician for a band 6/7 development role.

The ideal candidate should be looking to advanced their wound care skill set and be involved in the management of high risk complex patients with primary, secondary and community based colleagues. The successful candidate will be expected to deliver specialist Wound care as part of the MDT at St Richards Hospital, as well as providing leadership and guidance to junior colleagues and leading high risks clinics within the community setting.

The post holder will be provided with a period of mentorship and teaching from an advanced podiatrist to aid their transition into the role.

This is a permanent post and applications will be welcomed from those wishing full time/part time or flexible working.

· To work as a member of a multidisciplinary team based at the St Richards Hospital, University Hospitals Sussex Foundation Trust.

· To provide a highly specialised wound care assessment to in and outpatients, including those with complex presentation, and from this to formulate a clinical diagnosis and treatment plan as an autonomous practitioner.

· To take a lead role in the advanced assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients who have complex pathology which puts their lower limb at increased risk of ulceration, infection and/or amputation.

· To supervise, teach and appraise junior podiatrists.

· To share the responsibility for operational management of the podiatry department with the other band 7s in the capacity of deputy when the Operational lead is away.

· To be involved in the service development of the Podiatry Department.

· To supervise, initiate and participate in evidence-based projects

·To be responsible for providing clinical interventions and assessments to a cohort of high risk patients for the management of complex multi-factorial lower limb pathologies.

·Employ advanced podiatric skills to review aetiology and pathology of the site, determining diagnosis, rationale for treatment, care plans and appropriate referral.

·To communicate and co-ordinate all necessary information about treatment planning, and provide expert knowledge, efficiently and effectively with relevant colleagues, carers and with the patient.

·To work autonomously, and to work collaboratively, with multidisciplinary teams and across other health care providers/agencies, and where necessary, to refer on appropriately for other specialist care such as vascular opinion, orthopaedic intervention etc.

·To advise and educate patients/carers/relatives and other health professionals.

·To work in closely with other disciplines within the MDT to ensure a holistic approach to the management of the high risk diabetic foot.

·To organise and co-ordinate the appropriate discharge of patients from the MDT to the community podiatry setting.

·To carry out specialised teaching to peers, more junior podiatry staff and students on a wide range of specialist training including specialist at-risk foot assessment and treatment. To conduct education sessions to health care professionals from other disciplines.
