About the Company: A growing SME based in Stockport is seeking an experienced and hands‑on Bookkeeper / Accounts Assistant to take ownership of the full transactional finance function. This role is being recruited on a temp-to-perm basis, offering an immediate start with the opportunity for the position to become permanent for the right candidate.
Key Responsibilities
Accounts Payable
Processing supplier invoices (match, batch, code)
Managing supplier accounts and reconciling statements
Preparing weekly/monthly payment runs
Handling supplier queries
Accounts Receivable
Raising sales invoices and credit notes
Allocating cash and managing debtor ledgers
Chasing overdue payments and reducing aged debt
Producing debtor reports
Banking & Cashflow
Daily bank reconciliations
Petty cash and credit card reconciliations
Supporting cashflow forecasting
Month-End Support
Posting journals (prepayments, accruals)
Supporting management accounts pack
Maintaining the fixed asset register
Payroll & HMRC
Providing payroll data to external providers
Reconciling payroll journals
Assisting with VAT returns and general HMRC duties
Systems & Improvements
Ensuring accuracy across the finance system (Xero / Sage / QuickBooks)
Supporting efficiency improvements across finance processes
Skills & Experience
Experience in a Bookkeeper or Accounts Assistant role
Strong grasp of AP, AR, reconciliations, and general ledger work
SME experience is advantageous
Confident using accounting systems such as Xero, Sage or QuickBooks
AAT qualification or QBE considered
Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently
