We are looking to recruit a Trust Dr SHO to join our innovative Trauma & Orthopaedics team for six months. The post is part of the 1 in 10 on call covering Trauma & Orthopaedics Surgery. Job Responsibilities
The applicant will be expected to take part in the standard SHO on-call rota (1 in 10). Ward care will be required for trauma patients and there will be opportunities to work in theatre, fracture and elective clinics. It is anticipated that this post will allow the applicant to proceed to successful selection for national CT training.
The trauma and orthopaedic directorate sits within the Planned Care Integrated Service Organisation at Torbay Hospital. A comprehensive outpatient service is provided to all South Devon patients, both for trauma and elective orthopaedics. Fracture clinics are held at Torbay Hospital each weekday morning. Elective outpatient clinics currently take place at Torbay and Newton Abbot Hospitals. There is a Hydrotherapy pool and Rheumatology service at Torbay Hospital. Two high dependency beds are supported on the elective orthopaedic ward. The Directorate has two inpatient wards: Ainslie (26 trauma beds) and Ella Rowcroft (19 elective beds). There are five HEPA filtered Laminar flow theatres for trauma and orthopaedic surgery. There is a support structure with Admissions Officers, Trauma Co-ordinators and Consultant Orthogeriatricians, with a Physician\'s Assistant to assist with fracture lists and patient pathways.
Clinical Governance and Safety
Adherence to the Trust\'s Clinical Governance agenda is expected. Responsibilities include maintaining quality and safety, following Trust policies and procedures, and active participation in risk management and incident reporting. All staff are required to follow the Trust standards of record keeping and to work in accordance with the professional code of conduct.
Teaching, Audit & Research
Teaching commitments are required as this is a teaching hospital. Time will be made available for research. The post holder is expected to complete a research and audit project for presentation at local meetings and potentially national presentations or publications.
