Join Our Team as a Band 3 Healthcare Assistant (Dependent on Qualifications and Skills)
Are you passionate about providing compassionate care and making a meaningful impact in patients' lives? We are looking to recruit Healthcare assistants in the specialised department of Colorectal/Stoma Care.
This is an exciting and unique specialist support worker post with a wide range of responsibility within the Colorectal/Stoma Care service in Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
The prime function of the role is to provide assistance in supporting the delivery of high standards of nursing care for patients with colorectal diseases and their families.
What We Are Looking For
* Level 2 Intermediate Healthcare Support Worker Apprenticeship (or equivalent), or a minimum of 12 months' experience working as a Healthcare Assistant
* Completion of the Care Certificate, or a willingness to complete this within 3 months of commencing employment
* Clinical skills and competencies relevant to the department. Applicants who do not yet hold these competencies may be appointed as a Band 2 Trainee Healthcare Assistant, with progression to Band 3 upon successful completion of training
Main duties of the job
* Assist with the care of patient's physical and personal needs, ensuring a high standard of care is achieved.
* Be responsible for maintaining a high standard of care in accordance with the Trust's enhanced role policies.
* Provision of ward based stoma care and education for patients, staff and carers.
* Stoma Care stock control.
* Assist in the preparation of nurse led clinics.
* Provide assistance and support to the Colorectal/Stoma Care CNS.
* Participate in the implementation of prescribed care/treatment as delegated by the Colorectal/Stoma Care CNS.
* Assist and support practitioners and patients during clinical treatment and procedures.
* Sustain and build on strong communication links with the MDT and wards caring colorectal/stoma care patients.
* Play a role in the multidisciplinary team to participate in planned treatment and care of individual patients.
* Ensure the maintenance of accurate records, having due regard to legal aspects, confidentiality and management information requirements.
* Chaperone patients while undergoing medical examination and various procedure.
* Participation and facilitation of the enhanced recovery programme.
* Telephone triage.
* Be responsible for making patient information packs and maintaining a good stock of all patient information in the Colorectal Department and in out-patient clinic areas.
* Support anxious patients and carers particularly on the ward.
* Basic teaching programme to Health Care Assistants.

Person Specification
Qualifications & Training
* Level 2 intermediate Health Care Support Worker Apprenticeship (or equivalent). Or minimum of 1 years healthcare experience
* Care Certificate (or willing to complete in first 3 months)
* Certified competence to undertake vital signs, blood glucose monitoring, urinalysis and screening swabs training. (willing to complete in first 3 months)

* Must be able to work within a team. Support and assist in the safe and effective delivery service provision.

Knowledge & Experience
* Experience of working in a care setting providing personal care (12 months minimum experience)
* Knowledge and understanding of current healthcare issues.
* Basic computer skills.
* Experience of working in an acute hospital setting
* Experience of supporting junior staff or trainees.
