Assistant Cost Manager/Cost Manager (Flood Alleviation)
As an Assistant Cost Manager/Cost Manager, you will manage and deliver capital investment projects for flood alleviation schemes. You will work with an Associate to cost/commercially manage, coordinate and deliver water projects throughout the entire project lifecycle from inception to commissioning.
The role involves providing client‑side cost/commercial management support during all stages—from option studies and development, through construction tender support, NEC contract administration and on‑site delivery.
Responsibilities
* Support cost/commercial management commissions and ensure successful delivery.
* Participate in appropriate meetings, contribute to the PEP, prepare cost reports, assist with procurement strategies and tender documentation, and administer post‑contract commercial management.
* Proactively engage with clients, contractors and stakeholders to deliver within agreed parameters and prevent disputes.
* Manage client‑side cost, risk and contract management.
* Deliver projects and commissions to client satisfaction in quality, cost and time.
* Develop strong relationships with clients and cross‑functional teams.
* Support business development opportunities with existing and new clients.
* Provide contract management services on NEC4 contracts via a contract management system.
* Advise clients on procurement strategies and review tender documentation.
Qualifications
* Infrastructure cost/commercial management experience (water industry experience desirable).
* Knowledge of NEC contracts, especially PSC and ECC.
* Experience working within integrated, multi‑organisation, collaborative teams.
* Good communication and organisational skills; strong relationship‑building skills.
* Ability to work independently under own initiative while collaborating with Senior Project Managers and Associates.
* Can‑do attitude and interpersonal traits: outgoing, polite, patient, diplomatic, personable, respectful, flexible.
* Excellent IT skills and ability to use digital tools.
* Excellent numeracy, verbal, and written communication skills.
* Ability to manage internal and external relationships.

Education and Professional Qualifications
* Minimum 3 years of experience in a consulting or contractor environment.
* Relevant degree (quantity surveying or related subject) or equivalent industry experience for exceptional candidates.
* Knowledge and use of NEC contracts, especially PSC and ECC.
* Working toward membership of a related professional body (e.g., RICS).
* May be required to complete security screening checks.
