Overview

Career development within the exciting arena of Specialist Surgery Outpatients is on offer here at the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This is the ideal job for someone with enthusiasm to progress in a specialist nursing role as well as being motivated and able to contribute to the on-going development of nursing practice. While desirable, you might not have experience of the specialties nor skills in intraoperative settings or Plastics dressings, but you may have transferable knowledge and skills from working in another acute surgical specialty or in an outpatient setting which will make you suitable. You will also have excellent communication skills, experience of working collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary team. We pride ourselves in delivering the highest quality care and best experience for our patients within a friendly multi-disciplinary team and can promise you a robust induction and on-going training to ensure you have the competence and confidence to cultivate Specialist Nursing skills. We are looking for somebody to work full time, 37.5hrs per week at OUH sites. Our opening times are approx. 08:00 to 18:00. We aim to support requests for flexible working; i.e. compressing hours into long days for example and encourage this to be discussed at interview or before.


Responsibilities

* Undertakes Nurse Led Plastic dressing clinic, assessing and managing plastics speciality complex wounds. Escalating clinical concerns in a timely and proper manner. Provide exceptional patient care which is underpinned by evidence-based practice and OUH values. Work in partnership with the patients' family and friends to be actively involved in the caring process on behalf of the patient. Communicate effective information to patients/relatives/carers/ and all members of the multidisciplinary team and Primary care teams. Demonstrate high standards of nursing care, reflecting the beliefs about professional nursing practice and patient care commensurate with The Oxford Model for Exemplary Professional Nursing and Midwifery Practice.
* Supports Plastics Consultants in Outpatients clinic and works clinically as intra-operative Nurse (scrub & circulating) at Brackley Medical Centre.
* Provide exceptional patient care which is underpinned by evidence based practice and OUH values.
* Work in partnership with the patients' family and friends to be actively involved in the caring process on behalf of the patient.
* Communicate effective information to patients/relatives/carers/ and all members of the multidisciplinary team and Primary care teams.
* Demonstrate high standards of nursing care, reflecting the beliefs about professional nursing practice and patient care commensurate with The Oxford Model for Exemplary Professional Nursing and Midwifery Practice.
* Develop and maintain specialist knowledge of nursing practice relevant to the clinical area.
* Undertake the responsibilities associated with being a mentor and preceptor reflecting the beliefs about professional nursing practice and patient care commensurate with the Oxford Model for Exemplary Professional and Nursing and Midwifery Practice.
* Plan, organise and prioritise workload efficiently for a group of patients and, when necessary, as the coordinator of the department on any given shift.
* Interpret complex clinical information and respond to change promptly and appropriately, as per local guidelines.
* Actively seeks feedback and involvement from individuals, families, carers and colleagues to inform own development and/or service developments in practice.
* Demonstrate the ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail at all times.
* Learn to work in partnership with individuals, families and carers, using a range of assessment methods as appropriate (e.g. history-taking and physical assessments).
* Develops effective communication skills, supporting people in making decisions, planning care or seeking to make positive health changes, promoting person-centred approaches in health and care.
* Develops effective communication skills with colleagues both internally and/or externally, in verbal, non-verbal and written communication methods, adapting to changing parameters as required; this includes thorough accurate documentation in patient records as required.
* Provides and receives highly sensitive, complex or contentious information relating to patient care, and communicates information to patients, families or carers with respect, compassion and empathy.


Qualifications

* nurse degree
* Experience of working with patients undergoing Plastics surgery
* You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
