Opportunity to join a highly regarded and established team based at Hinchingbrooke Hospital, at a time of growth and change. We will recruit an enthusiastic and motivated Clinical Nurse Specialist or Social Worker to join our Psychiatric Liaison Team. Applicants with experience of working across age ranges are welcomed.
Main duties of the job are to assist in delivering a high-quality Liaison Psychiatry Service within Hinchingbrooke Hospital in line with the visions and values of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust (CPFT).
Responsibilities
* Provide timely psychosocial assessments and risk management plans in accordance with CPFT policy for adults presenting to the emergency department with mental health problems.
* Promote a safe and effective service throughout the emergency department by training and giving expert advice and support to nursing and medical teams in ED.
* Maintain a visible, professional presence where patients, carers and staff can seek assistance, advice and support.
* As part of the Liaison Psychiatry Service, contribute to multidisciplinary clinical assessment and management of patients referred to the service in collaboration with other team members.
* Participate in and promote close links with community mental health teams and other agencies to develop effective care plans.

Job responsibilities

1. To conduct biopsychosocial and risk assessments for individuals presenting in the Emergency Department with mental health problems and admitted to inpatient wards at Hinchingbrooke Hospital.
2. Provide a high level of clinical expertise in the management and assessment of patients with mental health problems.
3. Ensure care is based on comprehensive assessment, including thorough risk assessment and risk management planning.
4. Ensure good communication with Liaison Psychiatry Service and hospital staff about changes in care plans.
5. Liaise with community mental health teams and GPs to provide clear plans for all patients, particularly frequent attendees or high-risk patients.
6. Utilise current research findings to advance best practice and deliver evidence-based service.
7. Engage in Liaison Psychiatry Service educational and training events to meet clinical governance requirements.
8. Organise and provide training in psychiatry, including mental health awareness.
9. Provide support and expert advice to colleagues and develop systems to ensure access to this support.
10. Ensure compliance with the Mental Health Act 1983 and other statutory regulations within a medical setting.
Person specification
Education/Qualifications Essential
* Registered Mental Health Nurse or equivalent professional registration, including Social Work
* Evidence of relevant post-registration training and development
Desirable
* Independent and supplementary Prescriber
* Recognised training qualification
* Mentor and mentorship training
Experience Essential
* Community and in-patient experience in mental health services
* Considerable experience in assessment and management of clinical risk
* Experience in planning and delivering training and practice developments to staff
* Experience of effective collaborative working
* Evidence of service evaluation and improvements
