3d/2d character generalist (modelling/rigging/animation)

Offer description

We’re working with a creative technologist who’s leading a unique animated storytelling project, supported by a major WPP agency. The goal is to create personalised bedtime stories for the children of long-haul truck drivers. These stories are designed to help explain a parent’s absence in a magical and comforting way, through a browser-based Unity WebGL experience.

The work is emotionally driven and has backing from senior stakeholders. The aim is to deliver something both beautiful and scalable that could go on to win industry awards, including potential Cannes Lion recognition.

About the role

We’re looking for a hands-on character artist who can handle either stylised 3D or 2D sprite-based animation for Unity. You’ll be responsible for creating characters that are simple, charming, and emotionally expressive, suitable for children aged two to six.

This could involve using pre-supplied 2D assets and animating them in Blender and Unity, or modelling and animating new stylised 3D characters in Blender, then porting them into Unity.

You should be comfortable with:

* Designing, modelling, texturing, and animating stylised characters
* Working across the full art pipeline from concept to Unity integration
* Creating lightweight, expressive animations that work well in real time
* Optimising assets for Unity WebGL playback

The ideal person

* Can work independently and own the end-to-end character pipeline
* Has experience shipping real-time Unity projects or similar web-based experiences
* Understands how to create performance-friendly characters and assets
* Has a good eye for charm, personality, and readability in character animation
* Feels comfortable in small, startup-style teams where you wear a few hats
* Has experience in children’s media or creating emotionally driven stories (nice to have)

Working style

You’ll be collaborating with a creative director who’s hands-on and experienced in real-time and immersive production. The timeline depends on final approval from the client, but we’re aiming for an early July start. There’s flexibility to shape the work around your strengths.
