Audit Scotland supports the Auditor General for Scotland and the Accounts Commission to provide independent, objective assurance on how public money is being managed.
What is the Role
Audit Scotland's Graduate Trainee Scheme provides financial support to become a qualified Chartered Accountant with ICAS. You will obtain a prestigious qualification while auditing public bodies in Scotland, planning and delivering audit work, and contributing to audit reports and other outputs.
Responsibilities
* Undertake a programme of training with a view to becoming a professionally qualified accountant.
* Undertake audit assignments in accordance with professional standards and the Code of Audit Practice.
* Contribute to the development of appropriate audit approaches, audit tools and techniques.
* Contribute to the drafting of accurate, clear, and concise audit reports.
* Identify and develop relationships with key stakeholders and public bodies to add credibility and value to the reputation of Audit Scotland.
Stages of Selection
Stage 2 – Successful applicants will be invited to complete an online simulation assessment, a written analysis exercise.
Stage 3 – Successful candidates will be invited to a final interview. The interview will be competency‑based and will assess the competencies required for the role.

* Audit Scotland cannot provide sponsorship under the Skilled Worker visa category as the Home Office eligibility criteria will not be met.
* Applicants must demonstrate the right to live and work in the UK for the duration of the Trainee Auditor employment and training (typically 54 months).
* Suitable status includes a visa granting permission to work independently (e.g., a dependent or ancestry visa or settled status).
Qualifications & Requirements
* Hold or be on track to achieve an honours degree or equivalent in any subject.
* Minimum National 5 Grade C or GCSE Grade 4/C (or equivalent) in both Maths and English.
* Must be a UK resident or have appropriate legal status to work in the UK.
* No specific accountancy degree required; past trainees come from varied backgrounds.
