We are looking for a highly motivated individual to lead build and evolve the continuous development and ongoing support of the Universitys central web services including its web publishing platform (EdWeb 2). This is a great opportunity for a Senior Web developer to bring their expertise and knowledge to design and deliver complex enterprise-level web platforms and bring positive influence on the highly collaborative supportive environment of the central Website and Communications team.
The Opportunity:
The University operates a centrally managed website platform with over 150 live high profile websites. A new web publishing platform was developed and launched in 2024 and will continue to improve following a regularly updated road map informed by data-driven insights and user research.
This platform in parallel with the Universitys Student & Staff Portal (MyEd) are using open-source software highlighting the commitment of the University to support the usage of open software and data across its services.
We are ideally looking for full-time hours (35hrs per week) but are committed to offering flexibility and would be happy to consider flexible working arrangements such as compressed hours or longer breaks in the working day. The team office location is at the west edge of the Universitys central campus in Argyle House 3 Lady Lawson Street EH3 9DR. The role offers a hybrid working pattern and the successful individual will likely work partly from home and partly on campus.
What the job involves:
* Lead develop provide technical direction and deliver professional web development services both individually and as part of a team.
* Deliver high levels of customer service and communication.
* Ensure project initiation and requirements capture is effective and that deadlines are met.
* Manage support and share knowledge with other developers in the team to ensure the development and deployment of high-quality software.
* Work closely with other Website and Communication (WAC) colleagues to architect technical solutions and write user stories to ensure successful delivery of value in EdWeb 2 via a continuous improvement path.
* Raise awareness engage with appropriate internal and external communities and attend training/conferences etc. to ensure our understanding of best practice stays at the highest level possible.
A bit about you:
* Substantial demonstrable building complex PHP web applications and Drupal/WordPress websites with proven experience of modifying contributed and custom modules/themes/plugins.
* Excellent analytical and technical problem-solving skills.
* Substantial demonstrable expertise in frontend web technologies including HTML CSS SASS JavaScript jQuery and Bootstrap.
* Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workloads and work independently.
* Well-developed communication skills to enable the identification understanding and interpretation of staff/student requirements.
