A-level sociology is an engaging course which will interest anyone who is curious about society and the influences that shape us all as individuals and groups. Sociologists have different perspectives on society and these perspectives will influence their theories. Sociologists produce research which strives to inform effective government policy. They seek to understand society and to draw conclusions on how positive changes to society can be realised.
In sociology you will study education, the family, media, and crime. You will come to understand the perspectives of Marxists, feminists and functionalists as well as many others.
The course will allow you to develop your skills of analysis and evaluation, as well as your ability to critically assess the validity and application of various research methods. This course works well with many subjects including other social sciences such as geography, politics, economics and psychology.
