In-House Senior Counsel - Litigation/Regulatory
Location: Cheshire (commutable from Manchester and Liverpool)
Working Pattern: Full-time or part-time considered
Working Arrangements: Hybrid working
Salary: Very competitive salary and benefits package
We're looking for a pragmatic, commercially-minded Senior Counsel to provide essential legal support across our client's operations. This is a genuine generalist role where you'll be the trusted legal voice for teams across the business, helping them navigate complex legal issues and make sound decisions.
You'll focus particularly on consumer protection and dispute resolution, working in an environment where getting things right for customers really matters. This is about providing clear, actionable advice that helps the business move forward.
Day-to-day, you'll answer legal queries from colleagues, providing solutions-focused advice on contracts, compliance, and operational matters. You'll support teams handling escalated customer complaints and disputes, particularly those progressing through ADR or Ombudsman processes. You'll keep on top of changes in consumer protection law, translating what they mean for their operations, and review and draft contracts, terms and conditions, and policies for both consumer-facing and business-to-business situations. You'll also deliver training to build legal awareness across the organisation.
We're looking for a qualified Solicitor (or equivalent) with at least 3 years' PQE (much more experience welcomed!) ideally gained in-house, although the client is open-minded on this, particularly if you have some regulatory expertise. You'll ideally have knowledge of UK consumer protection laws and data protection, with excellent legal drafting and communication skills - you can explain complex issues in plain English. Experience with ADR services or Ombudsman schemes would be desirable.
You balance legal technical skills with commercial pragmatism. You're comfortable juggling multiple priorities and being the person everyone turns to for quick legal guidance. You communicate clearly with non-lawyers, you're detail-oriented, and you genuinely enjoy helping people solve problems.
If you're a practical legal advisor who wants to make a real impact, we'd love to hear from you.
