Packhouse Operative Working hours: • Monday to Friday, 07:30am - 4:00pm • Paid morning break at 09:00 - 09:15 • 30-minute unpaid lunch break at 12:00 • Paid afternoon break at 14:30 - 14:45 Benefits: • £13.71 per hour (up to 39 hours) • Overtime above 39 hours at time and a half (£20.57 per hour) • Immediate starts available on 12-week temp-to-perm contracts • Full PPE provided (hair nets, gloves, overalls, safety footwear where required) We are currently supporting a well-established business near Scarisbrick with the recruitment of a temporary ongoing Packhouse Operative. This role suits individuals comfortable with fast-paced, hands-on work in an indoor production environment, contributing to the packing and quality control of fresh produce. The position requires attention to detail, good manual handling ability, and the ability to work efficiently as part of a team focused on delivering high-quality products. Experience in food production, warehousing, or similar environments is preferred due to the pace and physical nature of the role. Due to the nature of the location and limited public transport options – access to own transport is desirable. We would also consider applicants from alternative backgrounds who have proven experience in physically demanding or target-driven roles. Working environment: • Indoor packhouse facility on the Southwest Lancashire plain • Fast-paced, environment handling fresh produce throughout the shift • Team-based, supporting packing and distribution operations • PPE provided on site to ensure hygiene and safety standards • Physically active role involving repetitive tasks and manual handling Responsibilities: • Pack fresh produce (including brassicas such as kale) to required specifications and quality standards • Grade and sort produce to ensure only high-quality items are packed for distribution • Working within a packhouse environment, maintaining speed and accuracy to meet daily targets and delivery schedules • Label, weigh, and prepare products for dispatch • Maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards in line with food safety regulations • Carry out manual handling tasks, including lifting trays and boxes (up to 10–15kg), stocking for distribution • Work collaboratively with team members and supervisors to ensure smooth operations • Support general packhouse duties as required Skills and experience: • Own transport desirable due to location of main site • Previous experience in a packhouse, warehouse, or food production environment advantageous • Good attention to detail and ability to maintain quality standards • Ability to work in a fast-paced, repetitive environment • Strong teamwork and communication skills • Reliability, good physical fitness, and willingness to work extended hours when required Interested?
