Sister/Charge Nurse - Ward 7 Trauma and Orthopaedic Ward
Role: Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse on Ward 7 Trauma and Orthopaedic Ward. This is a 12-month secondment to meet the needs of the service. Applicants must obtain permission from their current line manager before applying.
The post holder is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of evidenced-based nursing care, working collaboratively with others to meet the needs of patients and their families. The post holder will assist in the management and organisation of the clinical area and participate in the education, development and supervision of other staff members.
Responsibilities
* Provide nursing care based on assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care plans.
* Assist in managing and organising the clinical area; support education, development and supervision of staff.
* Mentor Student Nurses and provide preceptorship to newly qualified nurses; ensure Fundamentals of Care are maintained to a high standard.
* Act as Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse on Ward 7 Trauma and Orthopaedic Ward.
* Undertake mentorship and contribute to student and junior staff development.
* Utilise effective communication and MDT collaboration; maintain patient care standards.
Person specification
Qualifications
* Essential: NMC Registered Nurse
* Essential: Advanced Life Support or willingness to undertake
* Desirable: Degree in Nursing or relevant subject
* Desirable: Additional certifications (e.g., ALERT, Raat, APLS, PLS)
Experience
* Essential: Significant post-registration experience at Band 5
* Essential: Experience within an appropriate clinical area
* Desirable: Experience undertaking audit work and standard setting
Skills and Competence
* Essential: Evidence of good ward organisational skills; problem solving
* Essential: Negotiation and communication with patients and MDT members
* Essential: IT skills (email, Word, MyDdre, Oracle, TPATH)
* Desirable: Advanced clinical skills (venipuncture, phlebotomy, ECG); ability to adapt and propose changes
Knowledge
* Essential: Knowledge and application of consent, data protection, patient confidentiality; awareness of local policies/procedures/guidelines
* Desirable: Knowledge of management theories; involvement in interviews and appraisal processes
