About Pell Frischmann:
Pell Frischmann is a specialist advisory and technical consultancy operating across the built and natural environment, helping to shape a better future for the communities in which we work. We offer consultancy services, with access to specialist sister companies and partners, to support both public and private-sector clients. We work across sectors encompassing buildings, infrastructure, and regeneration.
Originally formed in 1926, we have a unique heritage in delivering client-focused solutions that deliver value through our commercial awareness, sustainable aspirations, and innovative approach. Our distinctive future is defined by our ownership; Pell Frischmann is a part of RSBG SE, the patient capital investment arm of RAG-Stiftung. RAG-Stiftung is a foundation with the long-term public purpose to deal with the environmental and social commitments resulting from the closing of Germany’s coal mining industry. RSBG SE’s mission is to generate sustainable funds for the foundation; so, our work directly contributes to the challenge of fighting global pollution and climate change.
The Opportunity
We are looking for a Senior or Principal Bridge Engineer to join our growing structures team in Mold, or Manchester, playing a key role in the design, assessment and inspection of bridges and civil structures across a diverse portfolio of UK infrastructure projects.
This role offers a strong balance between technical leadership, hands‑on engineering, and project delivery, with opportunities to influence design solutions, mentor engineers, and contribute to the continued growth of the bridges capability.
The Role
You will lead and contribute to the design, inspection and assessment of bridges and associated structures across highways, local authority and wider infrastructure schemes. This will include the delivery of detailed design work, structural assessments, and inspection programmes, ensuring outputs meet relevant standards, client requirements and programme expectations.
At Principal level, you will take responsibility for technical assurance, client engagement and mentoring junior engineers, while at Senior level you will play a key role in technical delivery with a clear pathway to progression.
You’ll work closely with multidisciplinary teams, clients and stakeholders, contributing to inspections, strengthening schemes, maintenance strategies and new design solutions.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and deliver bridge and structural design work in accordance with relevant standards and codes (including DMRB and Eurocodes).
* Undertake and manage bridge inspections, assessments and reporting, including interpretation of inspection findings and development of remedial solutions.
* Produce and review calculations, drawings, specifications and technical reports.
* Provide technical input and support to multidisciplinary project teams.
* Mentor and support junior engineers and technicians.
* Contribute to project planning, programme delivery and quality assurance.
* Support client liaison, bids and business development activities (Principal level).
About You
You will be an experienced bridge or structures engineer with a strong background in both design and inspection. You’ll be comfortable working independently while also supporting and leading others, with a practical and solutions‑focused approach.
You’ll ideally have:
* Proven experience in bridge design and structural assessment.
* Experience undertaking and/or managing bridge inspections.
* Strong knowledge of UK design standards (e.g. DMRB, Eurocodes).
* Experience using structural analysis and design software (e.g. LUSAS, MIDAS, RM Bridge, AutoCAD).
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
* Chartered or near‑chartered status (ICE or IStructE) is desirable.
* A full right to work in the UK is essential for this role.
