Overview Of Post

This post offers sub-specialty experience in Lung Cancer, advanced diagnostic & therapeutic bronchoscopy (including EBUS, navigational bronchoscopy, cryotherapy/APC), Pulmonary nodules, and Pleural Disease. It is suitable for a Respiratory trainee as out-of-programme experience towards the end of specialist training or as post-CCT experience. The position is based at the Oxford Centre for Respiratory Medicine, Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The post holder will be one of two Clinical Fellows supporting the Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) in lung cancer care, diagnosis, and pulmonary nodule management. Additionally, responsibilities include supporting regional and national cancer databases and ensuring delivery of cancer waiting time targets. The role also offers participation in departmental education meetings, teaching, and research projects related to lung cancer or pulmonary nodules.

At OUH, we have established a Respiratory Early Diagnostic Service (REDS), comprising nurse specialists, a pathway navigator, lung cancer consultants, and fellows. This initiative aims to surpass the National Optimal Lung Cancer pathway. The successful candidate will be a key member of this team, working to prioritize patient-centered rapid diagnostics.

Principle Activities

The post is based in Respiratory Medicine at John Radcliffe Hospital, with clinical activities occurring on interventional and diagnostic lists, outpatient clinics at Churchill Hospital, and inpatient wards at John Radcliffe. The postholder must be willing to work across any of the Trust’s locations. The role includes daytime and night-time respiratory on-call duties on a 1 in 8 rota, with residential daytime cover until 9.00pm or 10.00pm, and occasional night ward cover (~2 weeks per year).
