Midlothian has 6 secondary schools, 30 primary schools (19 with nurseries), and 2 standalone nursery schools. Our special school, Saltersgate, supports children with various physical, social, emotional, behavioural, and learning difficulties. Schools vary from small primary schools with around 20 children to large secondary schools with over 1200 pupils. The catchments range from rural to urban areas. We have a growing number of new build schools, with 13 primary schools and 1 secondary school built in the last 10 years, with more planned.

Pre-Employment Checks/Requirements for Teaching Positions
If successful, employment is conditional on completing pre-employment checks such as medical screening, two references (including your most recent employer), verification of qualifications, and eligibility to work in the UK. Registration with the General Teaching Council Scotland (GTCS) and a PVG check for Regulated Work with Children are also required.

Regulated Work with Children
This role is considered Regulated Work with Children under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. Applicants barred from working with children should not apply.
Successful candidates must join the PVG Scheme or update their membership before starting employment. The scheme fee (£59 for full membership, £18 for updates) will be deducted from salary over several pay periods. If employment ends before full repayment, the remaining balance will be deducted from final salary.
Applicants must disclose any unspent convictions under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. Disclosures should be sent confidentially to the Employment and Reward Manager. Failure to disclose may result in withdrawal of the job offer.
