An international manufacturing client has engaged JMC on an exclusive mandate to hire a Senior Legal Counsel. The counsel will take on a key position as the acting lead for all UK legal matters.
In this role, you will work directly with the UK Country Director and partner closely with senior stakeholders across the business. At the same time, you will be part of a wider international legal team, collaborating with colleagues across Europe to ensure consistency and best practice.
This is a role where you will combine day-to-day legal support with a broader strategic perspective, helping the business move forward with confidence.
The role is based onsite, full-time in Reading.

What You Will Do
* Act as the primary legal adviser for the UK business, reporting directly to the General Counsel.
* Draft, review and negotiate a broad range of commercial contracts.
* Provide practical advice on corporate, commercial, regulatory and compliance matters.
* Anticipate and manage legal risks, offering clear guidance to leadership teams.
* Oversee external legal counsel and ensure value-driven outcomes.
* Contribute to the development of compliance policies, contract templates, and legal processes.
* Collaborate with international colleagues to align with group standards and policies.
About You
You will be confident, pragmatic, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where your expertise makes a tangible impact. You combine strong technical knowledge with the ability to offer solutions that work in practice.
Key Requirements:
* Law degree and qualification to practise in the UK.
* 4+ years’ PQE in corporate and commercial law, ideally with a mix of private practice and in-house experience.
* Strong background in drafting and negotiating commercial agreements.
* Ability to manage external counsel and litigation matters.
* Clear communication skills with the ability to explain complex legal issues simply.
* Organised and able to balance multiple priorities effectively.
