About us

We are an award-winning teaching and training practicelooking for a salaried GP to join our team.

As a mid-sized (11250 patients) rapidly expanding semi-ruralpractice between Leeds and York, we value traditional, holistic patient careand enjoy being at the centre of our community.We are currently 10 GPs with afull complement of staff including Advanced Nurse Practitioner, in houseparamedics to assist with visits, midwifery, pharmacy support and co-locatedDistrict Nursing team.

We are a forward thinking, very well-established dispensing practicein a state-of-the-art building which opened in Summer 2024. The new buildingaffords us plenty of space, large new rooms, modern IT and is a pleasure towork in. We really value working as ateam, supporting each other and encourage sharing of knowledge. We have weekly multi-disciplinary team meetingsand in-house educational events. We value stability and aim to provide highquality patient care and continuity to our patients.

We have utilised total triaged for nearly 3 years so arehighly experienced at it, we are supported by 2 local urgent treatment centresand provide in-house extended hours. Weare active members of the local Integrated Care Board and work well with localpractices as part of the Tadcaster and rural Selby Primary Care Network.

We are looking to recruit due to retirement and an expandinglist size and would be delighted to discuss how you might fit into ourteam.


Job responsibilities

Role summary: The post-holderwill provide general medical services managing a caseload and deal with a widerange of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the highest standardsof care for all registered and temporary patients

Main purpose of the role: To support the GP partners, to manage a busy and interesting clinicalcaseload. The appointee will also have the opportunity to take part in leadingon key disease areas (monitoring trends in treatment, staff training andprescribing) and assist in developing appropriate healthcare services for adiverse, patient list (practice based commissioning, patient participation andhealth promotion. This is a PMS Practice).

Clinical responsibilities:

In accordance with the practice timetable, asagreed, the post-holder will make him/her-self available to undertake a varietyof duties including surgery consultations and emergencies, telephoneconsultations and queries, triaging, visiting patients at home, checking andsigning repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, patient test results, referral letters NHS/private, paperwork and correspondence ina timely manner;

Making professional, autonomous decisions inrelation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from otherhealth care workers within the organisation;

Recording clear and contemporaneous I.T. based consultationnotes to agreed standards;

Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute andrepeat prescriptions (avoiding hand-written prescriptions whenever possible);

Prescribing in accordance with locally agreed ornational guidelines.

In general the post-holder will be expected toundertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GPworking within primary care.

Other responsibilities with the Practice:

Awareness of and compliance with all relevantpractice policies/guidelines, e.g. prescribing, confidentiality, dataprotection, health and safety, annual QOF Assessment of the Practice.

A commitment to life-long learning and audit toensure evidence-based best practice;

Contributing to evaluation/audit and clinicalstandard setting within the organisation;

Contributing to the development of computer-basedpatient records;

Attending training, Practice Meetings and eventsorganised by the practice or other agencies, where appropriate.

Meet all tight timescales/deadlines for audits andwritten returns to ensure that the Practice meets quality standards andreceives the designated funding (e.g. Quarterly Enhanced Services returns,annual QOF audit etc.)

In the course of seeking treatment, patientsentrust us with, or allow us to gather, sensitive information in relation totheir health and other matters. They do so in confidence and have the right toexpect that staff will respect their privacy and act appropriately;

In the performance of the duties outlined in thisJob Description, the post-holder may have access to confidential informationrelating to patients and their carers, practice staff and other healthcareworkers. They may also have access to information relating to the practice as abusiness organisation. All such information from any source is to be regardedas strictly confidential.

The post-holderwill assist in promoting and maintaining their own and others health, safetyand security as defined in the practice Health & Safety Policy, to include:

Using personal security systems within theworkplace according to practice guidelines;

Identifying the risks involved in work activitiesand undertaking such activities in a way that manages those risks;

Making effective use of training to updateknowledge and skills;

Using appropriate infection control procedures,maintaining work areas in a tidy and safe way and free from hazards;

In addition to maintaining continued educationthrough attendance at any courses and/or study days necessary to ensure thatprofessional development requirements are met, the post-holder will participatein any training programme implemented by the practice as part of thisemployment, such training to include:

Participation in an annual individual performancereview, annual GP Appraisal including takingresponsibility for maintaining a record of own personal and/or professionaldevelopment;

Taking responsibility for own development,learning and performance and demonstrating skills and activities to others whoare undertaking similar work.

The post-holder will strive to maintain qualitywithin the practice, and will:

Alert other team members to issues of ClinicalGovernance issues, quality and risk; participate in Significant Event Analysisreviews

Assess own performance and take accountability forown actions, either directly or under supervision;

Contribute to the effectiveness of the team byreflecting on own and team activities and making suggestions on ways to improveand enhance the teams performance;

Work effectively with individuals in otheragencies to meet patients needs;

Effectively manage own time, workload andresources. He/she will also contribute to the overall team-working of thePractice putting the needs of the Practice first.

Communication

The post-holder should recognise the importance of effectivecommunication within the team and will strive to:

Communicate effectively with other team members;

Communicate effectively with patients and carers;

Recognise peoples needs for alternative methodsof communication and respond accordingly.

Contribution to the planning and implementation ofservices

The post-holder will:

Apply practice policies, standards and guidance;

Discuss with other members of the team how thepolicies, standards and guidelines will affect own work;

Participate in audit where appropriate.

Work with the Partners and Management Team toachieve standards of quality, performance standards, budgets and targetswithout compromising levels of patient healthcare.

Contribute towards the development andimplementation of new standards, policies and procedures that are/will berequired of GP Practices now and in the future (as directed by NHS/ DoH/ AT/ ICB,new legislation etc.)
