Job Overview: This role is open only to staff currently employed by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. It requires advanced clinical diagnostic capability, clinical judgement and specialist knowledge in Ophthalmology.
Responsibilities
* Advanced clinical diagnostic capability, clinical judgement and skills with specialist knowledge in Ophthalmology.
* Eye examination assessment and management using slit lamp biomicroscopy for red eye and urgent eye conditions.
* Demonstrate accountability for clinical judgements, decisions and patient management within own remit, and onward referral where required.
* Appropriate treatment of patients leading to safe management and referrals for those with a differential diagnosis.
* Accept direct referrals via telephone triage (GPs, optometrists, advanced practitioners and direct patient referral) after discussion with mentor.
* Provide safe and informed telephone triage for ophthalmic patients, directing them to the correct point of access within appropriate time scales.
* Deliver advice to MDT in both primary and secondary care, providing guidance on ophthalmic conditions/symptoms via telephone.
* Welsh language ability desirable; Welsh and/or English speakers welcome.
Qualifications
* Essential Criteria
* Experience working as a B6 Ophthalmic Nurse.
* Use of slit lamp biomicroscopy to examine the eye.
* Desirable Criteria
* Mentor qualification or experience.
* Level 7 Emergency red eye module.
