Job Summary
A unique opportunity to spearhead the South London NIHR Commercial Research Delivery Centre (CRDC) with Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Trust as the hub and Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust and Oxleas NHS Trust as the spokes. This role will drive the growth of commercial research portfolio across the network.
Responsibilities
Strategic and Centre Management
* Develop, implement and review the South London NIHR CRDC strategy alongside the CRDC director and deputy directors.
* Represent the CRDC locally within GSTT, Oxleas and LGT and nationally through the CRDC network and relevant meetings and events related to commercial research.
* Oversee commercial research delivery at the Hub site at Guys Hospital and work closely with research teams and infrastructure to achieve a financially sustainable portfolio of commercial research.
* Provide operational oversight of the late‑phase commercial trial facility and CRDC hub, including infrastructure, quality management, stakeholder and user management.
* Support the research leadership and management at LGT and Oxleas in building capability and capacity for commercial research.
Business Planning and Budget Management
* Lead the development of a robust financial plan, income‑generation and cost‑recovery system for the CRDC hub and its spoke sites.
* Manage the CRDC hub and spoke budget, ensuring income capture, adherence to budget plans, and identify savings and cost reductions in partnership with Research Management Accountants/Financial Analysts.
* Define and develop the infrastructure required for the entire portfolio of studies, working with LCRN, its Chief Operating Officer, NHS service providers and the NIHR CRN National Coordinating Centre.
* Maintain close working relationships with the KHP Clinical Trials Office to implement processes for costing of trials using NCVR, capacity and capability review, and green‑lighting of commercial clinical trials at the CRDC spoke sites.
Trial Portfolio Delivery
* Ensure resources are in place for the local delivery of portfolio studies, collaborating with CRN and other stakeholders.
* Develop key performance indicators and metrics for accurate reporting to CRDC Directors, GSTT R&D, CRDC partner research leadership, executive management and NIHR.
* Compile reporting and performance documents as required by NIHR for the CRDC award.
* Oversee all aspects of the CRDC portfolio, focusing on timely delivery of commercial research studies.
* Support negotiation and advise spoke sites on trial requirements.
Staff Management and Leadership
* Act as line manager for the Business Development Manager, ensuring supervision, professional development and effective appraisals.
Qualifications
* Essential: Master’s degree qualification or equivalent level of knowledge and experience.
* Desirable: Leadership and/or management qualification.
Knowledge and Experience
* Essential: Significant experience in clinical research management, including planning, coordination and conducting of studies or managing clinical research.
* Essential: Expert understanding of the research arena and its changing environment.
* Desirable: Knowledge and experience of NCVR.
* Desirable: Commercial research experience within pharma or the NHS.
Skills & Abilities
* Proven professional strategic leadership skills.
* Ability to analyse and interpret highly complex information and make judgements on complex management issues.
* Ability to work independently and lead new initiatives and change.
* Desirable: Senior Management of NHS‑based research infrastructure or research delivery services.
