The Submarine Delivery Agency (SDA) is a part of the Ministry of Defence responsible for the procurement, in-service support, and disposal of the UK's nuclear submarines. This position is advertised at 37 hours per week. We are seeking a dedicated individual to join our team as a scientific modelling specialist, where you will play a critical role in supporting operational capabilities and policy decision-making for the Royal Navy.
Responsibilities
* Conduct in-depth studies using a variety of tools and standalone models to ensure robust operational capabilities and provide insights into the impact of modifications and new functionality.
* Identify appropriate tools and inputs for operational use and develop specialist understanding of scientific phenomena and their modelling.
* Communicate findings through technical reports and briefs to support Royal Navy customers.
* Run scenarios, analyse outputs, and present results to senior stakeholders to inform decisions ahead of operational modelling changes.
* Shape the direction of research into scientific modelling by participating in technical working groups with internal and external stakeholders (UK and international partners); provide intelligent customer technical advice to international collaborations; act as technical secretariat for scientific working groups.
* Engage with UK scientific research community to ensure end-user needs are considered; travel may be domestic and overseas.
* Serve as system security officer for several classified systems on site and gain knowledge of security rules and international treaties.
Requirements / Qualifications
* Analytical skills: ability to analyse data and interpret results effectively.
* Critical thinking: understanding modelling limitations and communicating caveats.
* Strong written and verbal communication; ability to convey complex information clearly.
* Curiosity and adaptability; willingness to learn complex physical phenomena and engage in continuous development.
* Essential Skills: Relevant level 4 (or higher) qualification or equivalent experience; Associate Member or equivalent of a relevant Professional Science or Engineering Institute.

* Salary of £38,700 with Civil Service pension contributions; flexible learning and development; flexible working options; inclusive environment; Civil Service pension with employer contribution of 28.97%.
* Opportunities for Trident Specialist Allowance (TSA) or Trident Chartership (TCA) if eligible (non-contractual, discretionary).
* Flexible working patterns considered; minimum 60% in-person attendance unless business needs allow more flexibility; initial onboarding may require more frequent site attendance.
