Overview

Brighton College is seeking to appoint a Post:Graduate Assistant Teacher of Sport, with a specialism in rugby, netball, hockey, cricket, football, swimming or strength and conditioning to start in October 2025 (once pre-employment checks are finalised). This is a fixed-term role until 31 August 2026. Location: Brighton College, East Sussex, United Kingdom.

Salary: The post is residential and comes with free accommodation in a shared house with other PGATs. Three cooked meals per day are provided during term time, and the salary is GBP 20,765 per annum.

Vacancy Type: Fixed Term, Full Time.

Summary: The department offers a wide and varied games programme and expects PGATs to contribute from day one, with opportunities to gain classroom teaching experience in physical education and to support other College departments as needed.


The Role

The PGATs are integral members of the Sports Department and will be expected to assist with and lead coaching sessions from day one. They will typically coach up to 11 games sessions per week and be responsible for at least one competitive team each term, including weekend fixtures. There will also be the opportunity to gain experience in some classroom teaching of academic PE, under guidance, and to assist in covering for absent colleagues across College departments.

Away from sport, they will act as a co-tutor for a group of boarding pupils, overseeing registration, pastoral time, parent liaison and report writing under guidance. They will take responsibility for one evening duty per week in the boarding house and participate in other aspects of the boarding programme, such as evening activities in the School of Science and Sport (SSS).

This varied set of responsibilities provides broad experience and prepares PGATs for future teaching roles.
