The North West Civil Rights Archive is a three-year collaborative project (following a development phase) between the Bloody Sunday Trust / Museum of Free Derry, Guildhall Press and Archive Ireland, which will bring together the existing extensive archives of all three organisations, and also expand the archive with the addition of other existing collections and the creation of new materials, e.g. oral and video histories, publications, films etc. This archive will be made accessible to the public through a variety of media and programmes.The North West Civil Rights Archive is made possible with The National Lottery Heritage Fund. Thanks to National Lottery players, we have been able to collect and preserve our history.


Responsibilities

* Develop and implement an oral/video history programme on the recent history of the north west, with specific reference (but not limited) to Free Derry era of the late 1960s and early 1970s, and to gather the memories of those most involved.
* Develop and implement a programme to encourage school participation in the North West Civil Rights Archive.
* Assist the Curator to develop a series of exhibitions from the content of the NWCRA, and to work with other project partners Guildhall Press and Archive Ireland on similar projects.
* Develop and manage a volunteer placement programme within the NWCRA.
* Manage the allocated budget for the above work.
* Participate in NWCRA strategic planning and development
* Develop a marketing strategy for the promotion of the above programmes, activities and events.
* Prepare written reports in association with relevant NWCRA staff for group meetings and attend meetings as and when required.
* Attend appropriate training and personal development designed to enhance personal skill levels, thereby assisting the development of the NWCRA.
* Assist with the production of evaluation of NWCRA operations.


Skills and Qualifications

* Degree or above (or equivalent) in a relevant field plus two years experience in oral history / heritage sector or five years’ experience in a relevant field of work.
* Two years demonstrable experience in the areas of work outlined above, i.e. programme development and management, event management, oral history work, group facilitation, promotional activities.
* Demonstrable experience of working in a cross-community field and within sensitive areas.
* Proven ability to communicate, both written and orally.
* Demonstrable knowledge of recent local history.
* Proven ability to work on own initiative or as part of a team.
* Ability to build trust and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
* Ability to work in a multi-media format.
* Experience of managing project budgets.


Further Information

Key activities:Generate new content for the Oral History element of the North West Civil Rights ArchiveDevelop and implement a range of programmes designed to encourage and enable greater use of the Oral History and other collections within the NWCRA.Design and manage programmes to bring elements of the NWCRA off-site and encourage greater participation in schools, community groups etc.Work with teachers etc. to help design and implement educational programmes from the archive that are relevant to school curriculum.
