Role Overview
The primary function of this role is to facilitate the day‑to‑day implementation of Safety, Health and the Environment (SHE) activities, proactively across Brush Infrastructure Solutions (BIS) group of businesses. The post‑holder will promote a positive health and safety culture throughout BIS, empower employees and contractors to work safely, and develop new systems and procedures to maintain and improve the SHE standards within BIS in accordance with current legislation. Managing the environment is also a key aspect of the position, requiring the implementation of policies and procedures that support ESG and ensure the environment is considered, maintained or improved. Travel requirements: we operate sites across the UK, from the South of England to the North of Scotland; the successful candidate will be expected to provide on‑site presence as required, with regular travel and occasional overnight stays anticipated. The contracted hours are 37 hours per week with a half‑day finish on a Friday, and a car allowance will be provided.
Responsibilities
* Reports directly to the Group SHE Director with a dotted line reporting to Operations within each of the BIS businesses.
* Provide support and guidance to Managers across the country and promote the safe six.
* Provide specialist advice on all matters relating to the statutory requirement.
* Provide expertise and support with the maintenance of procedures to meet the requirements of ISO14001 and ISO45001.
* Maintain SHE reports for BIS within the BRUSH Group SHE KPI.
* Write, maintain and submit SHE reports to satisfy the requirements of customers.
* Work with customers to build a rapport to share best practice and improve safety performance.
* Drive the improvement of SHE across BIS to include policies, procedures and RAMS.
* Co‑ordination with SHE Legal Advisor in relation to work‑related claims.
* Promote a positive SHE culture and continuous improvement within BIS.
* Implement new strategies to improve occupational health and health surveillance.
* Sign‑off accident reports and confirm corrective actions are relevant and closed.
* Carry out SHE audits to confirm compliance and advise on areas for improvement.
* Support the PQQ process and suggest improvements to streamline the process.
* Support the business in its approach to Net Zero by working closely with the sustainability department.
Qualifications
* NEBOSH/IOSH/ISEP or CIEH
* CMIOHS
* Experience of working with BS EN ISO9001, ISO14001 and ISO45001
* Experience of working under CDM environments
* Experience of performing SHE audits
* Excellent understanding of current health, safety and environment legislation
* Demonstrable experience in adopting a proactive approach to managing SHE with a willingness to lead change
* Competent, organised, disciplined and capable of working in all environments
* Self‑starter
* The desire for improving own knowledge with the confidence to apply knowledge and experience across BIS
* Experience in leading diverse teams with a broad range of skills and technical knowledge
* Be experienced in leading projects through to completion with the tenacity to meet deadlines
* Excellent communicator with the ability to collaborate and agree outcomes
