Offer description

At Tesco, we’re proud to keep our stores safe, legal, and fully operational for our customers and colleagues. As our estate becomes increasingly connected, the reliability of our systems and networks has never been more important. We’re looking for a Connectivity Maintenance Technical Manager to lead the national strategy for connected assets, ensuring our technology, controls, and infrastructure work seamlessly every day. This is a fantastic opportunity to shape the future of connectivity across one of the UK’s largest and most complex retail estates. You’ll be accountable for advancing the Connectivity Maintenance discipline across our retail estate, ensuring safe, compliant, and cost‑effective management of all connected assets. You’ll support field teams, contractors, and internal stakeholders to maintain a safe, legal, and functioning estate for customers and colleagues. You’ll lead the operational performance, maintenance strategy, and technical governance of the connectivity infrastructure that supports remotely monitored assets — including refrigeration, HVAC, BMS, energy systems, and wider IoT platforms. A key part of your role will be managing the interface between operational technology (OT) networks and corporate IT networks as we move toward a “One Network” architecture, ensuring secure, stable, and scalable connectivity across all disciplines. The Hiring Manager for this role is Daniel Villiers. Leading the national Connectivity, Controls, and BMS maintenance strategy, ensuring technical standards, governance frameworks, statutory compliance, and best‑practice processes are consistently applied. Acting as the technical subject matter expert for all connected and remotely monitored assets, including refrigeration, HVAC, and BMS platforms (Danfoss, RDM, Siemens, Trend), providing expert guidance, diagnostics, and escalation support. Defining secure and efficient network access paths to ensure reliable data flow from IoT and OT devices to enterprise monitoring systems. Developing and implementing secure access policies for in‑store engineers and remote users, protecting systems while enabling operational efficiency. Working with vendors and partners to build clear delivery plans for major programmes and rollouts, ensuring connectivity requirements are contractually defined and met. Driving performance, reliability, and availability of monitored assets by analysing KPIs, identifying trends, and delivering year‑on‑year improvements in compliance, cost, and asset reliability. Leading root‑cause investigations for recurring system, controls, and connectivity issues, implementing corrective and preventative actions across the estate. Continuously optimising Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) strategies for connected assets, ensuring they are technically robust, risk‑based, and aligned to asset lifecycle principles. Owning connectivity cost performance, identifying efficiencies and delivering sustainable cost reductions without compromising safety or service. Overseeing parts and obsolescence strategy for controllers, gateways, and network devices, ensuring availability of critical spares and resilient contingency plans. Developing and delivering the annual Connectivity Discipline Improvement Plan, focusing on process improvement, innovation, and service uplift. Ensuring high professional standards in planned and reactive works, maintaining compliance with internal policies, safety requirements, and all relevant legislation. Working closely with Technology, Property, Infrastructure, Security, Procurement, and operational teams to align connectivity strategy with business needs and emerging trends. Communicating technical risks, performance metrics, and improvement activities clearly to senior leaders and key stakeholders. LI-AG2 Significant leadership, technical, and maintenance engineering experience. Advanced technical knowledge of refrigeration and HVAC system managers, IT networking principles, and protocols such as IP, LON, Modbus, Danbus, BACnet, and RS485. Strong understanding of BMS networks and enterprise monitoring platforms, including Siemens and Trend controls. Experience in IoT data management and analysis. A recognised engineering qualification or time‑served engineering background. Experience working in a large‑scale remote or multi‑site maintenance engineering environment. Strong senior stakeholder management skills. A track record of engineering innovation. Professional registration (or working toward it).
