Assistant Manager - Vocational / Construction (Prison Education) Location: HMP The Mount Salary: From £35,000 per annum (dependent on qualifications & experiecne) Contract: Permanent | Full‑time Hours: Monday - Thursday: 7:45am - 5:00pm Friday: 7:45am - 12:30pm About the Role We are recruiting an Assistant Manager - Vocational / Construction to join our prison education team based on‑site at HMP The Mount. In this key leadership role, you will support the Education Manager with the effective management of the vocational and construction curriculum, ensuring the needs of learners, employers, and stakeholders are fully met. You will play a pivotal role in raising standards, driving improvement, and ensuring high‑quality education provision within a custodial environment. This is a challenging and rewarding role for an experienced curriculum leader who is passionate about education, rehabilitation, and improving life chances through skills and employability. Key Responsibilities Support the Education Manager with the strategic and operational management of the vocational and construction curriculum Lead on quality assurance and continuous improvement, ensuring compliance with awarding‑body and inspection requirements Manage and support teaching staff, embedding an innovative, learner‑focused, and problem‑solving approach Drive improvements in learner performance, outcomes, and achievement in line with performance indicators Monitor and evaluate teaching, learning, and assessment to ensure consistently high standards Support curriculum development and manage change effectively to meet evolving learner and employer needs Contribute to self‑assessment processes, quality improvement plans, and performance reporting Essential Criteria (Please Read Carefully) Applicants must meet all of the following criteria to be considered: ✅ A relevant first degree and/or professional qualification within a vocational or construction‑related discipline ✅ A recognised teaching qualification ✅ A recognised IQA qualification or D32 (within the relevant curriculum area) ✅ Significant teaching experience within FE, training providers, or similar education settings ✅ Proven experience managing curriculum development, quality systems, and improvement processes ✅ Demonstrable experience managing and improving the performance of teaching staff ✅ A full UK driving licence and access to your own transport Desirable (but not essential) Experience delivering education within prison or secure environments Experience leading vocational or construction‑based provision Strong knowledge of inspection frameworks, performance indicators, and quality measures The Person You will be: Motivated, inspirational, and passionate about education and skills Confident leading teams and managing change Highly organised with strong attention to quality and detail Solutions‑focused, resilient, and adaptable Committed to improving learner outcomes and staff performance Why Join Us?
