UK Biocentre is looking for an IT Support Engineer to join our Informatics team and provide high-quality, hands-on IT support across the organisation.
About the Role
This is a varied, fast-paced role where you’ll be the first point of contact for end users, supporting everything from desktops and laptops to core systems, networks and security processes.
You’ll play a key role in keeping our IT services running smoothly, supporting day-to-day operations while also helping to maintain and improve our information security and compliance frameworks, including ISO 27001.
Key Responsibilities
* Providing first-line IT support to end users across the business
* Managing and maintaining the IT Service Desk, ensuring tickets are logged, updated and resolved accurately
* Supporting desktop, laptop and end-user hardware and software
* Carrying out basic maintenance of servers, networks and IT services
* Proactively monitoring systems and escalating issues where needed
* Supporting user onboarding and offboarding (AD/Microsoft 365)
* Working closely with third-party IT support providers on escalated issues and projects
* Supporting IT security processes and helping maintain compliance with ISO 27001 and other relevant standards
* Documenting issues, resolutions and improvements clearly and accurately
What We're Looking For
* At least 2 years’ experience in a similar IT support role
* Strong experience with PC/laptop hardware setup and maintenance
* Good working knowledge of Windows 10/11, Active Directory, OUs and Group Policies
* Experience with Microsoft 365 / Office applications
* Experience working with an IT Service Desk system
* Understanding of user onboarding/offboarding processes
* Basic knowledge of networking (LAN, switches, Wi-Fi)
* A solid understanding of IT security principles
* A proactive, organised approach and strong problem-solving skills
