Mission description
In the UK, Safran Seats specialises solely in the First Class and Business Class seating markets for wide body aircraft, with industrial and engineering teams in Cwmbran and Newport, Wales and Brackley, England. The purpose of this role is to support design activities that will provide mechanical design solutions from initial concept through to product manufacture.
Scope of Responsibilities
* Responsible for the design and detail modelling of a variety of suite components in order to meet programme requirements.
* Produce designs to meet specified cost/weight targets.
* Communicate effectively and professionally with customers and suppliers.
* Participate in Design Reviews throughout each phase of the New Product Introduction process.
* Select and apply materials and processes appropriate to each design element.
* Ensure the successful integration of each design element within the product as a whole.
* Check engineering packages.
* Participate in the validation of the product (using such methods as prototyping, test, DFMEA).
* Follow and contribute to the development of the Best Practice guidelines.
* Prepare to undertake tasks outside of normal duties as requested by immediate supervisors.
Knowledge, Experience, Training and Qualifications
* Qualified to a minimum of degree in a Mechanical / Aerospace / Structural Engineering field; alternatively a HNC/HND or an equivalent qualification in Mechanical / Aerospace / Structural Engineering apprenticeship, with extensive experience in mechanical systems design.
* Proficient with experience in CATIA V5 (or other 3D CAD packages) and Product Life Management (PLM) Systems.
* Understanding of the effective application of tolerances and a working knowledge of manufacturing processes, as well as OEM installation requirements.
* Working knowledge of main methods of manufacture: sheet metal fabrication, plastics vacuum forming, CNC machining.
* Ability to read mechanical design drawings and specifications; experienced in working with Boeing and Airbus specifications for interiors design or other equivalent OEM specifications.
* Excellent communication skills; able to advise and influence design solutions and to support internal and external stakeholders.
* Experience of ACET work delivery within an internal environment such as an aircraft manufacturing facilities.
* Experience of participating in the end of life aircraft management processes within aircraft manufacturing facilities.
* Experience of working end to end with a cross functional team within an internal environment such as an aircraft manufacturing facilities.
* Experience of thriving in a high pressure and fast paced environment.
* Experience of working in an internal environment that requires dispersed distribution of specialists and designers to help optimising the asset mix to support the internal design and engineering practices.
* Experience of building and co‑operating internally to deliver engineering products and services within a cross‑functional team.
