Job Summary

Consultant Psychiatry Opportunity (Adult Crisis Services). Live, work, and thrive in one of the UKs most desirable locations. Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is offering an exciting opportunity to join our General Adult team as a Consultant in General Adult Psychiatry within our Crisis Services.


Main duties of the job

* Review of the Home Treatment Team case load in the multidisciplinary setting to ensure efficient and excellent care, reduce average patient time on the caseload, prevent hospital admissions, and help form effective and lasting care plans enabling patients in crisis to be returned to their community teams safely.
* Weekly screening of inpatient wards and assessment of patient suitability for early discharge under the Home Treatment Team, reducing average length of inpatient admission, creating bed space and reducing out-of-county admissions and place of safety re-purposing.
* Bi-weekly medical reviews of patients under the care of the Home Treatment Team, updating care plans, and consolidating diagnosis and treatment.
* Due to geographical considerations, there will be a mix of home visits and some scheduled clinics where patients in crisis are invited to attend outpatients clinics for review.
* In their supporting professional activities time, the consultant may help develop the county crisis service and other aspects of emergency mental health care in Cornwall.

Qualifications and Eligibility

* Essential: CCT or equivalent in GA Psychiatry
* Desirable: Relevant Higher Degree (e.g., MD, PhD, MSc or other clinical qualifications)
* Essential: Full GMC Registration and licence
* Eligibility for Section 12 and AC Approval
* Inclusion (or eligibility for inclusion) on the Specialist Register or Specialty Trainee within 6 months of gaining CCT
* Desirable: Section 12/AC Approval; Trainer Training to enable clinical supervision of trainees


Teaching and Research

* Essential: Evidence of teaching experience at postgraduate and/or undergraduate level
* Desirable: Organising teaching or medical education programmes; relevant teaching qualification
* Essential: Experience of carrying out an audit project
* Desirable: Involvement in a research project and publication


Clinical Skills, Knowledge and Experience

* Knowledge of UK Hospital Systems (or equivalent); ability to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty
* Excellent oral and written communication in English
* Experience leading multidisciplinary teams
* Ability to manage time, workload, and prioritise clinical work
* Ability to use IT (e-mail and internet); knowledge of risk management
* Decision-making based on evidence and experience including contribution of others
* Able to meet duties under MHA and MCA
