Job Description
Position Title: Early Years Practitioner
Reports To: Nursery Manager / Deputy Manager
Main Purpose of the Role
* To work as part of a team to deliver a high standard of learning, development, and care for children aged 0–5 years.
* Ensure the nursery is a safe, secure, and stimulating environment for children, staff, and visitors.
* Foster strong partnerships with parents/carers to support children's development.
* Maintain records and documentation in line with Ofsted and EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) requirements.
* Uphold the safeguarding and welfare of all children and staff within the setting.
Key Responsibilities
* Participate actively in daily nursery activities, engaging with children through play and learning.
* Use the EYFS framework to plan, implement, and review children’s learning and development.
* Take on Key Worker responsibilities for assigned children (permanent employees only).
* Exercise discretion and sound judgment, particularly in sensitive situations.
* Communicate positively and professionally with children, parents, and colleagues.
* Work alongside the SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) to support children with SEND.
* Understand and apply GDPR legislation in daily activities and communications.
* Adhere to military base protocols and maintain high operational standards.
* Support, mentor, and guide apprentices, trainees, and students on placement.
* Attend all required staff meetings and training sessions.
Duties
* Understand and follow all nursery policies, procedures, and guidelines.
* Keep accurate and up-to-date records of children’s daily activities and developmental observations.
* Monitor and evaluate practices, raising concerns with the Nursery Manager as needed.
* Encourage parent/carer involvement in the setting and their child’s progress.
* Use developmentally appropriate language to guide and support children.
* Ensure compliance with all Health and Safety requirements.
* Liaise with external agencies where necessary for child development or health and safety.
* Maintain positive relationships with all stakeholders, including external professionals.
Learning and Development
* Commit to completing all mandatory training (including online and in-person sessions).
* Take responsibility for your own ongoing professional development.
Other Duties
* Support marketing and fundraising activities as required.
* Carry out any other reasonable duties as directed by management.
Additional Information
* DBS Requirement: This role requires a satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and enrolment in the DBS Update Service.
* Uniform: Staff are required to wear a branded shirt or tunic, appropriate to the activities being undertaken
