Senior Dental Officer – Oral Surgery

Key Responsibilities
* Provide outpatient minor oral surgery for patients at clinic sites across Cheshire and Merseyside (Warrington, Halton & St Helens, Western Cheshire, Vale Royal and Sandbach) as required by service need.
* Perform extractions of single and multi-rooted erupted teeth beyond the skill level of a general dentist.
* Remove buried roots and fractured or residual root fragments.
* Conduct routine third molar surgery for simple impacted, ectopic or supernumerary teeth.
* Manage acute infection cases.
* Deliver treatment with local anaesthetic with or without intravenous sedation (usually as operator-sedationist).
* Provide advice and assistance to staff and referring practitioners.
* Liaise with specialist senior dental officers on case management, service development and best-practice implementation within Clinical Networks.
* Ensure referring practitioners receive adequate feedback following assessment and treatment.
* Participate in undergraduate and postgraduate training programmes.
* Participate in clinical governance, peer review and audit.
* Maintain high-standard patient records in accordance with organisational policies.
* Line manage clinicians and dental care professionals within the service.
* Organise training for staff or groups of staff.
* Take an active role in service improvement and performance management of SLAs.
* Develop and maintain professional knowledge, skills and awareness of current developments within dentistry.
Experience Required
* Significant and demonstrable post-qualification oral surgery experience.
* Experience working with a wide range of patient groups.
* Demonstrated experience in clinical governance, quality assurance and audit.
* Participation in a multidisciplinary team.
* Experience in a salaried primary dental care service or equivalent.
Qualifications
* BDS or equivalent.
* Full GDC registration.
* NHS performer number.
* Appropriate DBS clearance.
* Post-graduate certificate in minor oral surgery.
* Tier 2 oral surgery accreditation.
Skills and Knowledge
* Excellent interpersonal skills.
* Leadership and organisational skills to aid team development and motivate and support other staff.
* Self-motivated.
* Proficiency in DENTALLY dental software.

* Ability to work flexibly in accordance with service needs.
* Ability to work independently.
* Competencies of a Band B dentist.
