We are looking for an Archivist to join the BFI's Screencraft team, to catalogue and carry out preservation work on paper collections. They will play a central role in the effective running of a vibrant research service, managing day‑to‑day operations, and ensuring that colleagues, researchers, and visitors are fully supported in accessing and engaging with the collections. They will also support the Screencraft team to achieve the BFI Screen Culture 2033 goal of reframing the public's relationship with screen heritage, making the BFI National Archive the most open moving image archive in the world.
What you’ll do
* To undertake archival arrangement and description of both paper and digital collections to ISAD (G) (or other relevant standards) using Axiell collections management software
* To re‑house and undertake preservation work on the collections, and identify items that require conservation work
* Work with Screencraft Conservation to identify the preservation supply needs of the collection, and to purchase and maintain these supplies.
* To manage, support and develop the Screencraft Coordinator and Screencraft Archives Assistant, as well as supervise and train placements or volunteers, providing guidance and fostering understanding of archival practice and professional standards
Qualifications
* A professional archive qualification or equivalent training, combined with proven experience working in archives
* Knowledge and experience of using automated archive systems or information databases
* A strong engagement with contemporary archival thinking and its practical application to archival work
* Supervisory or people management experience, with the ability to train and develop existing and future team members
